Aruna Roy to submit 'another' Lokpal Bill draft PDF Print E-mail
LOKPAL SETHI | July 25, 2011

Disagreeing with the drafts of the Government on Lokpal and also the Anna Hazare-led Civil Society representatives, noted social activist Aruna Roy will submit an alternative draft of the Lokpal Bill to the Centre and leaders of all political parties.

The idea, Roy told the media here on Monday, was to have different Bills. The Lokpal Bill would cover elected representatives, including the Prime Minister, whereas another independent body could look into the corruption charges in the judiciary.

She said a third body should be designated to settle civic grievances of the common citizen. “But the mechanism to appoint these bodies should be the same and comprise a three member panel of the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition and the Chief Justice of Supreme Court,” she said.

Roy added, drafts of the Bills were ready and she and her colleagues would be meeting leaders of different political parties in Delhi to gain their support for the same.

Roy said, “We want that Prime Minister should be brought under the ambit of Lokpal but with some conditions,” she said, adding that the “weak” Bill proposed by the Centre would not serve any purpose.
