And Now The Rascals Want The Sanctions To End PDF Print E-mail

They finally got it! The Heads of State of the Coalition of Rascals, looters and vandals of museums and libraries and destroyers of the roots of history now want what most of the sane world wanted even in 1991 – for the economic sanctions against Iraq to end. But there is a world of difference in the motives. The rest of the world in 1991 wanted the sanctions to end because they were taking a terrible toll of the lives of Iraqi children under the age of 5 and of the lives of women and the aged and the infirm. I belong to a civilization which worships these three categories of people and for this reason alone, I hold the US and Britain criminally culpable for adamantly refusing over 12 years, to allow the Security Council to review the sanctions and threatening to exercise their veto if the UNSC went ahead with such moves. I cannot forgive them. If ever there was a case for trying Heads of State for war crimes, then this is it. If Bush senior, Clinton and now Bush junior cannot be hauled up before the International Criminal Court because the US is not signatory to it, then Blair and Howard ought to be and the three American Presidents ought to be hauled up to be tried for war crimes and violation of human rights in The Hague where they have now stood Slobodan Milosevich. The American Presidents belong there too if only because they have more blood on their hands stretching over 12 years, than Milosevich.

Pravin Togadiya, sharply criticized the government for not coming out openly in support of the United States in its invasion of Iraq. No other individual or group within India, sharing Togadiya’s ideological orientation has echoed his support. In fact, cutting across politics and ideological differences, there has been an unanimity of opinion within India which is unequivocally against the Anglo-American unilateral war against Iraq. But picking up the cue from Togadiya, a section of non-resident Indians has expressed a touching faith in the United States in ‘its war against terrorism’, hoping that the US’ show of barbaric force against Iraq will be seen as a match for the barbarism of Islamic terrorists and terrorist organizations whose tentacles reach out into every corner of the globe; Hindus in India have been the hapless victims of extremist Islam and Islamic terrorism lasting over 800 years. This vocal section of NRIs who loudly proclaim their loyalty to the country of their residence now, cherish the naïve belief that this impressive show-casing of the US’ military hardware will make the Islamic terrorists quake in their beards and that once Bush and his minions are through re-making the world order, they will turn their attention on a free Sunday to the sources and origins of Islamic terrorism in India and that these terrorists will quail before Bush’s eyes and cease their terrorist activities in J&K and other parts of India.
